Kenya possesses all of these characteristics in abundance, and our goal at Rashoti Technologies is to develop research programs that provide the data necessary to assist in the optimal deployment of these resources, to support the development of the next generation of Kenyan innovators, entrepreneurs, and scientists, and to provide communities with the best analytical tools to discover the right local solutions to their local issues.

Accessibility Assessment for Essential Services in Homa Bay County

Project Overview

Kenya's rapid growth brings an urgent need to extend basic services beyond major towns. In Homa Bay County, many villages still require long, costly journeys to reach clinics, schools, or markets. We are building a comprehensive Accessibility Index using GIS, machine learning, and simulation to reveal where people face the greatest travel burden and provide concrete, data-driven guidance for future infrastructure investment.

Key Features

Mapping typical travel times from settlements to nearest health facilities, schools, and markets
Identifying wards falling below nationally accepted access thresholds
Analyzing correlations between access deficits and immunisation coverage, school attendance, and poverty
Optimizing placement of new facilities to benefit largest underserved population within 5 km / 1 h travel window
GIS mapping with cost-distance models accounting for terrain and transport mode
Location-allocation simulation testing optimal facility siting under various budget scenarios
